Zion Market Research has completed an overview of the worldwide QSR IT market that shows that this area of the business has become a major service differentiator, through the use of everything from POS systems and digital signage to kiosks and all manner of handheld devices. But some sub-categories are growing much faster than others.
The study found that worldwide this entire category of business will expand rapidly by 2024, and one key to IT success with QSRs is in development of IT that best accommodates governmental policy differences from region to region.
Hardware — including elements like kiosks, digital signage, POS, drive-thru terminals, digital menu cards and handheld devices — will expand markedly with POS devices projected undergo the greatest development in the next six years, followed by kiosks and digital menu cards.
Among the software category, including everything from inventory and labor management to data analytics, operations and franchise management, the report identifies front-of-house software development as the most active category in the next six years, while reconciliation software is projected to grow the fastest due to increasing requirements for financial accuracy regarding QSR business dealings.
Regionally, North America is projected to lead all other markets for QSR IT business due largely to the sheer number of quick-serve brands in the market. However, the Asia Pacific region is projected to grow most quickly in the future due to what the report calls "superior technology in quick-service restaurants in developing economies such as India and China."
